JUST FOR TODAY
A daily reprieve.
A small enough horizon to begin again, and a reminder to keep putting recovery into practice.
“You can not get drunk if you don’t take the first drink.”
This familiar saying brings our attention back to the beginning of the pattern. When the urge to drink arrives, reaching out to someone in recovery can help interrupt isolation.
“You have a one-day reprieve.”
In the Big Book, the daily reprieve is connected to maintaining our spiritual condition. It is not a promise that recovery happens automatically: it points towards ongoing daily action.
For today, that could mean a meeting, a call, a reading, time for reflection, or an honest conversation with a sponsor.
